Watershed
Concepts surveys High Water Marks for Texas flooding...
From June 29 to July 7,
2002, a persistent storm system poured 5 to 35 inches
of rain onto areas of Central Texas, causing massive
flooding and widespread destruction. Watershed Concepts
was contacted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency
to assist in disaster recovery. Part of this assistance
included the collection and survey of high water marks
along affected flooding sources. This is the first step
toward assisting the affected communities in establishing
flood hazard areas and preventing future loss of life
and property damage.
Based on telephone registration,
field investigations and analysis of existing data, high
water marks were recommended for twenty counties. Survey
crews from Watershed Concepts, the Corps of Engineers,
GBRA and ESP Associates were dispatched to conduct resident
interviews, take digital photos and survey high water
marks.
A High Water Mark Survey
Report has now been finalized that summarizes the methodologies
and describes the results. The summary report and county
reports can be downloaded by clicking on the links below. |
